The Metta Center invites journalist to apply for its first round of Media Fellowships. The primary goal of this fellowship is to facilitate a deeper understanding of issues related to nonviolence and tell stories about nonviolence in action. Three fellows will be given travel stipends for reporting.
Eligibility Criteria:
- The Fellowship is open to all journalists living and working in Asia and Africa, irrespective of nationality.
- Journalists and photographers working for any mainstream media – print, broadcast, or web/ online and freelancers – will be considered.
- Open to journalists writing in English.
- The candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to career in journalism.
Value of the Fellowship:
— The fellowship supports only travel expenses up to $100.
— The grant will be dispersed on completion and submission of stories.
— Successful fellows must publish/broadcast at least 2 products
— Stories have to be published by February 15, 2014.
— All stories will have to carry the credit line: “This story has been produced under the aegis of the Metta Center for Nonviolence Media Fellowship.”
Guidelines for Application:
To qualify for the Fellowship, applicants should send the following beforeDecember 20, 2013. Submit application and queries to Bijoyeta Das, Director of Communications at bijoyeta@mettacenter.org
—A cover letter with updated curriculum vitae (maximum 2 pages) and names of media outlets you intend to publish your work.
—Two story ideas.
—Two writing/broadcast/portfolio samples.
—Brief budget.
Note: Your application will not be considered if any of the above mentioned criteria is not fulfilled.
Selection Process:
A selection committee, including experts, from Metta Center, will review all applications. Only successful applicants will be notified via email. Metta Center will acknowledge the receipt of your application.
