In this first video, Michael Nagler discusses a story about marchers during the American Civil Rights Movement who drew on a power from within that stunned police officers, unable to turn on the fire hoses. What was that power and how did it work? Find out.
In this next video, he goes on to further explain the dynamics underlying the peak experience within the framework of nonviolence in action.

About Daily Metta
Stephanie Van Hook, the Metta Center’s executive director, launched Daily Metta in 2015 as a way to share Gandhi’s spiritual wisdom and experiments with nonviolence.
Our 2016 Daily Metta continues with Gandhi on weekdays. On weekends, we share videos that complement Michael Nagler’s award-winning book, The Search for a Nonviolent Future: A Promise of Peace for Ourselves, Our Families, and Our World. To help readers engage with the book more deeply, the Metta Center offers a free PDF study guide.

Dear Michael
Thank you for this. I love your work, how you speak about the nature of non-violence so simply & clearly. It’s my experience of living with some of this wisdom (& I’m so grateful for the daily ‘top-ups’ & reminders) that sometimes I can ‘do it’, live it ‘be’ it, & sometimes I can’t. I think the difference comes down to how grounded I am, how connected & integrated with my body’s subtle intelligence. I’ve recently come across the work (& person!) of Philip Shepherd. He wrote the fabulous, groundbreaking book ‘New Self, New World’. I would LOVE to hear you two in conversation together! Please, if you have a moment, check him out, & I will flag up to him you & your work. I’m sure you would get on famously… Love Julie x
Love these videos. Going to b teaching a class on Nonviolence for Daily Living. I plan to show some of these videos And also introduce the students to the Metta Center.
“Inch by inch, row by row going to make that nonviolent garden grow. ”
Thanks for all u do.

I love the new video format. Michael with a green screen! I really look forward to these daily readings/videos. They are just the right length to give me something to ponder or work on during the day.
I think that one can’t really generalize. The football helmet was a distraction especially because Michael made the distinction around the destructiveness of football for its players.
For me what Michael says is far more powerful than where he says it
Two weekend videos work fine for me. I look forward to them, but, of course, if you think you need to reduce the offering to one that’s fine, too.
