Strategy Session: Day 2
When: Sunday, March 30 from 10 am until 2 pm (Please pack a lunch)
Where: The home of Sherri Maurin, San Francisco. (Directions will be given to those confirmed in attendance)
Meta Peace Team offers 3 main trainings: Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. It is our hope that our time with Meta Peace Team will lead to the development of a Bay Area peace team, so we have decided to start from the beginning, with a Level 1 training. Even if you are already skilled in nonviolence, please join the Level 1 training to take notes about what a basic training–not simply in nonviolence but in unarmed peacekeeping, which is more specific than direct action–looks like, especially if you are interested in helping to form the Bay Area Peace Team. This training will be essential in future trainings with MPT as well as with the Bay Area Peace Team and the Shanti Sena Network.
The initial training is usually 8 hours but we will try to condense it into 6 in order to accommodate many schedules.
Learning Objectives are the following:
* Participants will be introduced to the concept of “peace teams” or third party nonviolent intervention and its scope of possibilities (from international to domestic to personal )
* Participants will gain practice in specific skills/ tools useful both in conflict intervention situations and in daily life (Active listening, I messages, and CLARA )
* Participants will be introduced to tools for group work (Affinity teams and consensus decision making)
* Participants will explore nonviolence as a big picture ; what it means, how it is “used” and how good hearted, well intentioned individuals can disagree on these questions (yet still work together)
* Participants will learn about the work of Meta Peace Team and the Shanti Sena Network and how they can get involved.
Fees:
This training is free of charge though donations to Meta Peace Team and the Metta Center will be welcomed.

I plan for Sat. training. (Sun. has schedule conflict.) Special interest: Protest situations in which some protesters see violence as appropriate and necessary. Not my POV, to put it mildly. I’d like more skills in peacemaking in these situations. Maybe those who have been on peace teams in civil wars etc. might have useful insights for those of us in local protest situations.
thank you
