A great nonviolent warrior of our world was Jesus, whose birthday was celebrated on the 25th of December. In this special episode of Peace Paradigm Radio, we explore the nonviolence of Jesus through the lens of the theory of scapegoating and mimetic desire, two key aspects of the work of Stanford theorist Rene Girard whose research radically changed the way we understand how cultures form. We welcome Suzanne Ross from the Raven Foundation who has dedicated herself to the study of Girard’s theory in order to shed light on the hidden dynamics of violence and nonviolence. The show also includes a short segment with Russ Faurbrauc about the legislation for a Department of Peace.
This is a great show.

“Jesus applies another expression to himself that is extremely revealing. It is drawn from Psalm 118: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.’ This verse tells not only of the expulsion of the single victim but of the later reversal that turns the expelled victim into the keystone of the entire community.” –Rene Girard.
