Common Core: Daily Metta

“The rays of the sun are many through refraction. But they have the same source.”
~ Gandhi,
Young India, December 3, 1925, p. 422

One of the root causes of violence in our world is the belief that we are separate, material objects. We see the multiplicity, but not the unity behind our diversity. Gandhi challenges us today to see that we share a common source. The cultivation of this awareness brings in its wake compassion, empathy, and some even say, an abiding sense of peace that affects how we interact with others on a daily basis. This is not to say that we have all had the same experiences, only that behind our experiences there resides a common core of humanity, which when perceived makes violence unthinkable.
