Why not cut down a little more on our consumption of mainstream media? It’s a joy to substitute alternative media for the news (alternet is a place to start) and real interaction with live people for the ‘entertainment.’ Click here for a powerful exposé of how our dismal politics have been, and still are, shaped by mass-media culture, and read a book like Marie Winn, the Plug-in Drug, for stories about families that broke the TV habit. Culture jamming begins with each of us!
Hi,
“Click here for a powerful exposé of how our dismal politics have been, and still are, shaped by mass-media culture”
Adam Curtis’ “The Century of the Self”, (from which these clips are taken) is a four part BBC documentary from 2002 that really turned me around several months ago when I saw them. I refer back to what I got out of them often when I think about the current state of disconnection in all areas of our world.
I just wanted to say thanks for the link and reminder and to put in my two cents that all four parts are well worth watching.
Thanks, Ken
Thank you Ken! That’s a good tip. Think of us when you run across good resources like that. And when you have some time, and feel strong, have a look at the BBC documentary called “Pleasure Machines.”
