About our office and staying over in Petaluma for those from out of town:

The Metta Center’s office is located in the heart of Petaluma, California. It is wheelchair accessible from the side of the building by the parking lot. Street parking has a two hour limit in front of and around the Metta Center’s offices, and unfortunately, folks will get ticketed if they ignore the signs and/or forget to set a timer. We are not having guests visit at this time due to the pandemic.

Unfortunately, we do not have a residential center, so if you plan to stay overnight or desire to stay for an extended period, you will need to find/research your own accommodation in the area and be able to manage your own transportation. Buses run from SF and Santa Rosa Airports to Petaluma and there is a SMART Train from Santa Rosa and San Rafael. The office is a very short distance (for walking or wheeling) from these stations. Please direct your questions to info [at] mettacenter [dot] org. If you would like to gift us with a residential center and/or would like to offer your space as a location for Metta guests to stay when they come to town, please don’t hesitate to contact us!

Hope Tank

Support and strategy for a new story Some 10 years ago Michael Nagler, our founder and president, proudly announced to a young adult friend that he was planning to inaugurate a new think tank on peace and nonviolence. “We don’t need another think tank,” she replied. “We need a hope tank.” And so Hope Tank came into being. The benefits of the hope tank are many, including but not limited to: getting to practice listening… read more
