Wait, what? There is actually a USDAC?!
Yes, it is a parallel institution, a form of nonviolent constructive program that we talk about so often here at the Metta Center–build the institutions you want without waiting for those at the top to give it to you, so we have a system in place that works and is supported by the grassroots when the broken, exploitative system crumbles, helped with a push from nonviolent resistors. . .
In this episode of Peace Paradigm Radio, as always, we begin with nonviolence in the news with Michael Nagler and joining this special show is Nina Koevoets, member of the Metta Center Strategic Advisory Council, who has come to share some powerful stories of practicing nonviolence during her time with the Holy Land Trust in Bethlehem.
Then, we talk with author, social activist and agent of hope, Arlene Goldbard. She is the “Chief Policy Wonk” of the U.S. Department of Arts and Culture about the power and deep potential of artistic expression and participation. Is art something only for the elites of society or does it play a more transformative role? Does art have a re-humanizing effect on society, and if so, should that matter as we think about our national priorities in spending? Who are we as human beings? This and other minor thought experiments. . . Most importantly, there are ways for YOU to get involved! (We mention the Metta Center’s Roadmap project several times, so you might want to check that out here while you’re around…)
Enjoy the program!
