We get to talk to experts in nonviolence and conflict resolution. It’s a university without walls. On the International Day of Nonviolence and Gandhiji’s birthday, Stephanie had the honor of interviewing Dr. Louis Kriesberg, Professor Emeritus of Sociology, Maxwell Professor Emeritus of Social Conflict Studies, and founding director of the Program on the Analysis and Resolution of Conflicts (1986–1994), all at Syracuse University. In addition to over 160 book chapters and articles, his published books include: Realizing Peace: A Constructive Conflict Approach (2015) and Constructive Conflicts, 4th ed., (2012). (Learn more about his work and get ahold of it by going to this link.) There are so many gems in this interview, you’ll be wiser about understanding conflict once you’ve listened. Hint: conflict should not be avoided, he tells us, it is necessary and oftentimes even desirable. Say what? Listen for more!

For the news, we hear from some of the progressive organizations from around Petaluma, California, ordinary people working hard to make the world a safer, fairer and more informed about issues that affect all of us!

Time to celebrate Gandhi’s birthday with Metta and enjoy the show!
